The Green Dragon

  • December 12, 2014

Green Dragon is a scene I painted from the corner of Cole Ave and Lemon Ave in Uptown Dallas. Street Car 186 was built by the St. Louis Car Co. for Dallas Consolidated Electric Street Railway in 1913, She served for 43 years in Dallas before being retired in 1956 when the streetcar system was abandoned. Her running gear and electrical wiring was removed and sold to a private individual who used her for a hay barn in  North Dallas. 186 was originally displayed in the Texas Sports Hall of Fame in Grand Prairie, Texas. MATA restored the Green Dragon to running order in 1989. The Car is 42-feet’ long, 8-feet wide, weighs 21 tons. Car 186 once  ran on McKinney Avenue on the SMU line. Since SMU students fondly called her “The Green Dragon,” the name was to restored.
